Can foreigners rent a car in Bali? Yes — but the legal requirements matter. To self-drive in Bali, foreigners must hold either an International Driving Permit (IDP) issued in their home country before travelling, or a temporary Indonesian licence issued at the local Bali police office (SIM Internasional). Driving without one of these is illegal and your insurance will be void if you have an accident. For travellers without an IDP, we strongly recommend hiring our chauffeur service — a local Balinese driver who knows every road, traffic pattern, and shortcut on the island. Yes. Indonesian law requires foreign drivers to hold either a valid International Driving Permit (IDP) obtained in your home country before travel, or a temporary local licence (SIM Internasional) issued by Bali police. Without one, your rental insurance will not cover an accident, and you risk a fine if stopped at a police checkpoint. If you don't have an IDP, our chauffeur option is almost always the better choice.
Our standard rental insurance is comprehensive — covering third-party liability, collision damage, and theft. There is a deductible (typically USD 200–500 depending on the vehicle class) which can be reduced or eliminated by adding our zero-excess Damage Waiver upgrade. Insurance is voided if you drive under the influence or without a valid licence/IDP.
We deliver to any hotel, villa, or address in Bali — Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, Ubud, Nusa Dua, Jimbaran, Sanur, Uluwatu, and beyond. Delivery is free for stays of 3+ days within South Bali. We also deliver to Ngurah Rai Airport's authorised handover area for a small surcharge — ask us for a quote.
Travel to Lombok or Java by car ferry is permitted only with prior written approval from us, and only for our Innova Reborn or larger vehicles. Self-drive across islands is not allowed under our standard insurance. For multi-island trips, we recommend our chauffeur service which can be combined with ferry coordination.
For self-drive: vehicles are delivered with a full tank; you return them with a full tank. We can prepay a tank if you prefer. For chauffeur service: the driver handles refuelling and we settle the actual fuel cost at the end of the rental — typically IDR 100,000–200,000 per day for active touring.
